Damp, showery conditions today, with a light chop building from the WNW and steady pressure. Activity on Long Pond should centre on any feature that breaks the open water. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Terra Nova entry here is Long Pond, in Newfoundland and Labrador. The shore lies 18 km out. At about 19 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 3.7 km of margin, front to back. Our Terra Nova list holds plenty of bigger water. Glovertown at 18 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Gambo at 24 km and Clarenville-Shoal Harbour at 47 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Terra Nova, recorded fish include Atlantic salmon, brook trout and Arctic charr. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Long Pond light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July near 16°C and February near -8°C on the long-run figures. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Open water usually runs from late April until about early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Long Pond.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Chain Pond is 3.8 km distant. Rules at Long Pond are worth checking on the day.
