Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a whisper of wind from the S and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Long Pond around whatever cover the water offers. Middle-of-the-road numbers across the board. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
Old Perlican, Newfoundland and Labrador, is where Long Pond sits. The setting is mixed forest. Around 29 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The bank runs about 3.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. On our Old Perlican list it sits near the top for size. Pouch Cove lies 32 km from the water. Beyond it, Victoria at 32 km and Carbonear at 35 km. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Old Perlican list Atlantic cod, polar cod, capelin and bull-rout. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Long Pond a short move beats a long cast.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -5°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid December in autumn. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Expect Long Pond to follow that timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Little Pond at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Long Pond as something to verify.
