Bands of rain crossing through the day, with a decent ESE wind working the banks with a settled glass. Long Pond should fish best around the overhang and the water beneath it today. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Long Pond lies in Whiteway, Newfoundland and Labrador. Elevation runs to 33 metres. This is sizeable water at about 1.83 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 9.2 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Of the waters listed here in Whiteway, this is the largest. Spaniard's Bay lies 18 km from the water. The big place round here is St. John's, 59 km distant. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Whiteway include Atlantic cod and American eel. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Long Pond for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate normals give 16°C for August and -5°C for February. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The water is typically free of ice between late April and late December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. That shapes the year on Long Pond.
We hold no note on access for this one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Dram Cup at 4.7 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Long Pond are worth checking on the day.
