Little Lake near Sheshatshiu: Fishing Spots, Seasons and Access

• Overview

  Little Lake is one of the Happy Valley-Goose Bay listings for Newfoundland and Labrador. The sea is 1.4 km distant. This is sizeable water at about 6.58 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. With 11 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Our Happy Valley-Goose Bay list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest town is Sheshatshiu, 2.1 km off. Further out sit Happy Valley-Goose Bay (28 km) and Saint-Augustin (276 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.

• Where to Fish on Little Lake

  No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Time trips to the tide table rather than the clock here. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish.   Long-term averages put July at about 13°C and January near -17°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Look for the thaw near mid May; the fishing lifts straight after. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Little Lake to follow that timing.
