Rain moving through today, with the water lying quiet with the glass holding level. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lemotte's Lake. The morning carries the best of the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lemotte's Lake is set in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador. Lake country bush runs right down to the water. This is sizeable water at about 2.96 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Around 19 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Grand Falls-Windsor is the closest place, 7.1 km off. Further out sit Bishop's Falls (23 km) and Botwood (40 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Grand Falls-Windsor include Atlantic salmon, American eel, brook trout and rainbow smelt. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lemotte's Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between February at about -9°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lemotte's Lake.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Rushy Pond is 6.1 km distant. None of that is settled for Lemotte's Lake in what we hold.
