A rainy spell sitting over the area, with a soft WNW wind and steady pressure. Start the search at Island Pond along gaps in the weed within a lob. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Out in Glenwood, Newfoundland and Labrador, sits Island Pond. Height above sea level is 81 metres. This is sizeable water at about 3.06 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The shoreline runs about 19 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. Head to Lewisporte, 23 km away, for anything you forgot. For a city, St. John's is 235 km off. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Glenwood include Arctic charr and brook trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Island Pond light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -8°C at the bottom of winter. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan around that when you fish Island Pond.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, O'Brien Lake is 3.1 km off. Ask locally about Island Pond if anything is unclear.
