Passing showers with dry spells between, with a stiffish breeze from the ESE with the glass holding level. On Dabblers Pond, work the margins and any overhead cover first. A broad window opens from the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Hant's Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador, this is Dabblers Pond. Around the bank it is lake country bush. At 7 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Start from Victoria, 27 km down the road. It is 62 km to St. John's, the nearest city. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Hant's Harbour include Atlantic cod, American eel and bull-rout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Dabblers Pond light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The year swings from about -5°C in February to roughly 16°C in August. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid December in a typical year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. The season on Dabblers Pond rarely departs from it.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Keep the gear simple: light line, small hooks, split shot and a couple of proven lures. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Pitmans Pond, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Dabblers Pond for certain.
