Soft grey light all day today, with enough WSW wind to stack food downwind and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Bad Pond should hold close to the warm end of the pond. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Bad Pond lies within the bounds of Colinet, Newfoundland and Labrador. Height above sea level is 112 metres. At some 1.11 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Shoreline length is close to 9.6 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Among the waters listed for Colinet, none is wider. Nearest town is Whitbourne, 18 km off. After that come Harbour Main-Chapel's Cove-Lakeview at 27 km and Holyrood at 27 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Colinet, recorded fish include brook trout, brown trout, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Bad Pond gives up more to patience than to distance.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in August and bottom out at -5°C in February. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. On average, late April opens the water and late December closes it again. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Anyone fishing Bad Pond regularly works to that calendar.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Billy Boys Ponds at 6 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Bad Pond are worth checking on the day.
