An even grey lid over the water, with a steady W wind with the glass holding level. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Ashuanipi Pass. A grinding day likely, with the morning worth the effort if any is. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Ashuanipi Pass is listed under Wabush, Newfoundland and Labrador. Height above sea level is 528 metres. Compared with other Newfoundland and Labrador water on our list, it sits high. The town to know is Wabush, 64 km out. Saguenay is the closest city, 573 km away. Others within reach: Nowell Lake out at 20 km, Lac Gagne 21 km off, Lac aux Outardes out at 23 km, Lac du Petit Portage 25 km off and St. Patrick Bay out at 26 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Gravel runs and silted pools fish quite differently, so treat them apart. After rain the colour clears from the surface first, so fish the edges. Reported across Wabush: lake whitefish, Atlantic salmon and brook trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Ashuanipi Pass light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July near 13°C and January near -22°C on the long-run figures. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Slack stretches skin over in the cold months, while the faster water stays open around late May. Expect the water usable from around late May until roughly early November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It holds true on Ashuanipi Pass more years than not.
We hold no note on access for this one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Nowell Lake, 20 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Ashuanipi Pass may have changed since it was mapped.
