Overcast skies today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Perch Lake. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Saint John County, New Brunswick, this is Perch Lake. Around the bank it is pine and birch. Surface area is around 73 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. At about 7.1 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. On our Saint John County list it sits near the top for size. Lancaster at 9.7 km is the nearest place to stop. It is 220 km to Dartmouth, the nearest city. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Saint John County, recorded fish include alewife, Atlantic cod, Atlantic salmon and rainbow smelt. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Perch Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Between January at about -9°C and August at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly mid December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Anyone fishing Perch Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For salmon, swing spoons or flies through the moving water and mind the local method rules. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Wolf Lake sits 1.9 km off and takes the overflow. For Perch Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
