Low mist over the surface today, with a whisper of wind from the N and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Macs Lake around sheltered bays and points. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In New Brunswick, Macs Lake belongs to Northumberland County. It sits at 38 metres above sea level. It measures about 22 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The full circuit measures close to 2.4 km on foot. Nelson-Miramichi is the closest town at 11 km. Newcastle lies 14 km off, Miramichi another 14 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Northumberland County records list Atlantic salmon, American eel, striped bass, white sucker and rainbow smelt among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Macs Lake is often the one people ignore.
On the long-term average, July reads 18°C and January reads -10°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly early December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Macs Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Sands Lake, 6.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Macs Lake for certain.
