Fog sitting on the water this morning, with a light NNW breeze with the barometer flat. Lake Francis should fish best around inflow corners and shaded margins today. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lake Francis lies in Kent County, New Brunswick. Around the bank it is pine and birch. About 4 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Kent County list holds plenty of bigger water. Nouvelle-Arcadie lies 12 km from the water. Then Rogersville, 14 km, and Miramichi River Valley, 34 km. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Kent County, recorded fish include American eel, striped bass, rainbow smelt, brook trout and white perch. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lake Francis fishes better once you know its edges.
The range across the year is -10°C to 18°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Lake Francis to follow that timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Sabbies Lake, 2.8 km out. Rules at Lake Francis are worth checking on the day.
