Poor visibility with fog on the water, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Douglas Lake around the shaded margin through bright spells. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Saint John County, Douglas Lake is a New Brunswick water. It sits 10 km in from the sea. With some 18 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 2.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. The closest town, Wells, is 6.4 km away. Beyond it, Rothesay at 7.2 km and Forest Hills at 8.1 km. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Open biodiversity records for Saint John County list alewife, Atlantic salmon, rainbow smelt and American shad. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Douglas Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The range across the year is -8°C to 18°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. Break-up near mid April, freeze-up near mid December: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan any trip to Douglas Lake around it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Parking sits 920 m out, which makes for a walk with tackle. For salmon, swing spoons or flies through the moving water and mind the local method rules. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Latimer Lake, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Douglas Lake.
