A soft, muffled morning under mist, with a soft NNW wind and steady pressure. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Bear Lake. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for Bear Lake in Sunbury County, New Brunswick. Everything around it is pine and birch. About 2 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Sunbury County list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest place of any size is Manners Sutton, 36 km away. Dartmouth is the closest city, 261 km away. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name alewife, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, chain pickerel and smallmouth bass. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Bear Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -10°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about early December in a typical year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It sets the rhythm of the year at Bear Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Scoullar Lake at 1.6 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Bear Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
