A closed sky with even light today, with a kind E breeze on the water and pressure sitting still. Stayback Lake should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Manitoba holds Stayback Lake, in Kelsey. The water sits 304 metres up. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Most waters listed here for Kelsey are larger. Snow Lake is the closest place, 4.5 km off. Flin Flon is 118 km and Creighton 120 km. Close by you have: Kluklatch Lake some 0.8 km off, Cleaver Lake at 1 km, Squall Lake some 3.4 km off, Badre Lake at 3.4 km and McLeod Lake some 4.2 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Kelsey records list white sucker, johnny darter and northern pike among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Stayback Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -23°C on the long-run figures. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near early November in autumn. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Stayback Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Kluklatch Lake, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Stayback Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
