Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a gentle ripple from the W and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Pockets Lake should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Pockets Lake is a Hamiota water, Manitoba side. The bank is 466 metres above sea level. The water covers some 20 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Hamiota. Some 38 km away sits Virden, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Rivers (51 km) and Moosomin (54 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name stonecat. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Read Pockets Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. The season on Pockets Lake rarely departs from it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Public mapping marks it as seasonal water rather than permanent. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Murphys Lake, 11 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Pockets Lake if anything is unclear.
