Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a light E breeze with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Ospowakun Lake should come off points where shallow meets deep. The productive run goes afternoon into evening. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

You will find Ospowakun Lake in Manitoba. The setting is spruce and muskeg on every side. The water covers some 36 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 4.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Supplies mean a trip to Thompson, 187 km off. The big place round here is Saskatoon, 649 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. At Ospowakun Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes. Work slowly along one feature rather than covering ground.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -26°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Winter locks it down, and mid May brings it back. Break-up sits around mid May on average, with the water closing again about early November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan around that when you fish Ospowakun Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Muskeko Lake is 1.8 km off. Check the position at Ospowakun Lake before loading the car.
