Clear overhead with good moonlight, with steady pressure of wind from the WNW with the barometer flat. The productive water at Monette Lake will be around shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Monette Lake is one of the Kelsey waters in Manitoba. Elevation runs to 259 metres. The water covers around 2.00 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. The perimeter runs near 12 km, so plan the walk before you start. The town to know is Snow Lake, 29 km out. Cross Lake 19A is 122 km and Flin Flon 142 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name white sucker, johnny darter, northern pike and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Monette Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Seasonal averages run from -23°C in January up to 17°C in July. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to early November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Time your trip to Monette Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Burns Lake, 2.5 km out. What applies at Monette Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
