Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a steady WNW wind with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Mitatut Lake should be near the first drop-off and weed lines. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

In Manitoba, Mitatut Lake falls inside Kelsey. The bank is 323 metres above sea level. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. A shoreline of some 2.8 km keeps the choices simple. Our Kelsey list holds plenty of bigger water. Flin Flon lies 32 km from the water. Saskatoon is the closest city, 458 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Kelsey, recorded fish include white sucker, johnny darter and northern pike. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Anyone new to Mitatut Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Seasonal averages run from -22°C in January up to 17°C in July. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly early November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Mitatut Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Payukosap Lake at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Signs at Mitatut Lake carry more weight than any list.
