Overcast skies today, with a faint WNW drift and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lake Stormon should be near windblown banks where food collects. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Set in Rolette County, North Dakota, this is Lake Stormon. The country here is rolling bush. Around 67 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge runs 2.9 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is high ground by North Dakota standards. Boissevain at 16 miles is the nearest place to stop. Then Shell Valley, 17 miles, and Belcourt, 19 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Rolette County, recorded fish include bluegill, northern pike and white bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lake Stormon the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Long-run averages give July about 65°F and January about 1°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Plan around that when you fish Lake Stormon.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Parking within half a mile means no long carry with tackle. Picnic facilities are recorded some 140 yards out. Toilets show in mapping about half a mile away. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Shoofly Lake, 1.9 miles away. Signs at Lake Stormon carry more weight than any list.
