A cloudless sky and strong light today, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with the barometer flat. On Kaweenakumik Lake, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. The numbers single out the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

You will find Kaweenakumik Lake in Grahamdale, Manitoba. It stands 254 metres above sea level. Surface area runs to some 76.52 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. Points and inlets split the bank into distinct stretches. On our Grahamdale list it sits near the top for size. Swan River is the closest place, 144 km off. Then The Pas, 160 km, and Norway House, 169 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Grahamdale include walleye, freshwater drum, nipigon cisco, white sucker and yellow perch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Kaweenakumik Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. The season on Kaweenakumik Lake rarely departs from it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Kanusk Lake is 9.2 km off. Treat Kaweenakumik Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
