Hard light and clear air over the water, with an easy breeze from the WNW and no real change in pressure. Fish at Hello Lake should hold close to the shallows early and the drop later. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Set in Kenora District, Ontario, this is Hello Lake. It lies 345 metres above sea level. It measures about 65 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. For supplies, Kenora is 51 km out. Winnipeg sits 143 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Water in the same corner: Hello Lake after 0.4 km, Barwood Lake about 0.9 km, Madge Lake after 1.7 km, Pelechaty Lake about 1.7 km and Jag Lake after 2.1 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Survey and observation records for Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker and white sucker. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The near bank of Hello Lake is often the one people ignore.
Average temperature peaks around 19°C in July and bottoms out near -19°C in January. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Hello Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Hello Lake is 0.4 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at Hello Lake for certain.
