Solid cloud cover today, with almost no wind to speak of and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Cacholotte Lake should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. The useful hours run night into morning. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Cacholotte Lake sits in in Manitoba. Height above sea level is 316 metres. It measures some 3.40 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. Shoreline length is close to 16 km, and each section fishes a little differently. The closest town, Flin Flon, is 30 km away. For a city, Saskatoon is 460 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. At Cacholotte Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does. With some 5,900 people, Flin Flon is the local centre.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -22°C for January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly early November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. At Cacholotte Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Bath Lake, 3.4 km out. Where Cacholotte Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
