Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a working E breeze and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Bog Lake will be around points where shallow meets deep. Make the morning the heart of the trip. Ride the conditions while they last. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Bog Lake in Manitoba. Elevation runs to 261 metres. It measures about 40 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Around 3.8 km of margin, front to back. Some 60 km away sits Hudson Bay, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Regina, 352 km distant. Also within reach: Wanigan Lake 2.3 km off, Red Deer Lake near enough 9.4 km, Rice Lake 23 km off, West Rice Lake near enough 26 km and West Salt Lake 26 km off. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth figures are not published for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On Bog Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session. Look for colour changes in the water and fish the seam between them.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Bog Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Wanigan Lake, 2.3 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Bog Lake for certain.
