Flat light and a covered sky today, with a gentle ripple from the W and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Barbours Lake should come off sheltered bays and points. The strongest window runs from morning through afternoon. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Louise entry here is Barbours Lake, in Manitoba. Around the bank it is rolling bush. It runs to roughly 29 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The town to know is Killarney, 57 km out. After that come Morden at 58 km and Langdon at 68 km. It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Louise: black bullhead, johnny darter, white sucker and creek chub. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Barbours Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Barbours Lake that shapes the whole year.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Public mapping marks it as seasonal water rather than permanent. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the catfish, fish bottom baits into the deeper holes and let them sit. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Salt Lake, 1.4 km away. Treat Barbours Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
