A cloudless sky and strong light today, with just enough SE wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Trappers Lake. The day fishes best from afternoon into evening. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Alberta holds Trappers Lake, in Strathcona County. The surface lies 716 metres up. At 1.41 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. The margin runs to about 5.5 km in total. For a base, Ardrossan sits 14 km out. Edmonton sits 34 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Strathcona County cover northern pike, yellow perch, cisco and rainbow trout. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Trappers Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Trappers Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Oster Lake, 3.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Trappers Lake in what we hold.
