A clean, cloudless night over the water, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. The productive water at Sang Lake will be around shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Sang Lake is a Yellowhead County water, in Alberta. Land around it is lake country bush. It measures some 1.40 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. The bank runs about 5.0 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Head to Edson, 19 km away, for anything you forgot. Then Whitecourt, 72 km, and Mayerthorpe, 79 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Yellowhead County list rainbow trout, mountain whitefish and brook trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Sang Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -14°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Sang Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. You will be walking about 1.4 km from the nearest car park. There is a toilet block some 1.4 km out. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Bear Lake, 20 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Sang Lake is worth confirming on the day.
