Partly cloudy skies today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and steady pressure. Owlseye Lake should fish best around the margins and the shelf beyond them today. The useful hours run afternoon into evening. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Owlseye Lake is one of the County of St. Paul No. 19 waters in Alberta. Elevation runs to 644 metres. This is sizeable water at about 1.64 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The edge covers about 5.2 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. St. Paul at 10 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Elk Point (36 km) and Two Hills (45 km). It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for County of St. Paul No. 19 names yellow perch, Iowa darter, northern pike, white sucker and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Owlseye Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Plan around that when you fish Owlseye Lake.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Cardinal Lake is 3.5 km off. Signs at Owlseye Lake carry more weight than any list.
