Wind the main story today, with a steady WNW wind with a settled glass. Activity on Low Water Lake should centre on reed fringes and open pockets. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Low Water Lake falls in Sandy Beach, part of Alberta. It sits at 688 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 1.67 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. There is roughly 6.2 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. You are 20 km from Morinville. Edmonton sits 43 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read Low Water Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out. The windward bank collects food and the fish that follow it.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -14°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Low Water Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. It is recorded as intermittent, which means the basin empties in dry spells. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Bard Lake is 3.9 km distant. Nothing on Low Water Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
