A rough, wind-driven day, with a light SW breeze with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Little Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The County of Grande Prairie No. 1 end of Alberta holds Little Lake. The bank is 709 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 1.13 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Around 5.7 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Wembley lies 6.5 km from the water. Westlake follows at 18 km, then Grande Prairie at 18 km. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across County of Grande Prairie No. 1 include longnose sucker, white sucker, largescale sucker, Arctic grayling and mountain whitefish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Little Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The year swings from about -13°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. That shapes the year on Little Lake.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Overnight stays are possible about 780 m out, where camping is mapped. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Saskatoon Lake, 2.2 km out. Treat access at Little Lake as something to verify.
