A blustery day over the water, with flat calm through the day with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lessard Lake along the margins and the shelf beyond them. Numbers are low everywhere; the evening is the pick of them. Lower the pace and stay patient. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

In Alberta, Lessard Lake belongs to Lac Ste. Anne County. The surface lies 738 metres up. At some 2.79 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. At about 11 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. The town to know is Mayerthorpe, 37 km out. Further out sit Barrhead (42 km) and Stony Plain (51 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name northern pike, walleye, white sucker, lake whitefish and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lessard Lake that means starting tight and working out.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 16°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Lessard Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Birch Lake sits 8.7 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Lessard Lake before loading the car.
