A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a faint SSW drift and steady pressure. The fish at Dolo Lake are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Dolo Lake is one of the County of St. Paul No. 19 listings for Alberta. It lies 673 metres above sea level. Roughly 33 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 3.0 km of margin, front to back. St. Paul sits 10 km from here and is the nearest stop. Further out sit Elk Point (16 km) and Bonnyville (44 km). You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Fish documented in County of St. Paul No. 19 include yellow perch, Iowa darter and northern pike. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Dolo Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. The season on Dolo Lake rarely departs from it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Flammand, 5.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Dolo Lake in what we hold.
