Clear overhead with good moonlight, with enough WSW wind to stack food downwind and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Chilver Lake is bays that hold the day's warmth. Plan around the stretch from morning through afternoon. Keep moving until you find them. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8 end of Alberta holds Chilver Lake. Elevation runs to 1,316 metres. With some 38 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 4.2 km on foot. The closest town, Canmore, is 20 km distant. The nearest city of size is Calgary, 69 km away. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8, recorded fish include mountain whitefish, brown trout, brook trout and longnose sucker. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Work Chilver Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Climate records put July near 14°C and January near -8°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The water is typically free of ice between late April and mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Chilver Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. This one is mapped as intermittent, so a wasted trip is a real risk in a dry year. Mapping shows a campsite some 1.1 km from the water. There is a toilet block some 1.1 km out. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac des Arcs at 8.1 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Chilver Lake in what we hold.
