Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Albert Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Albert Lake is a County of Vermilion River No. 24 water, in Alberta. The ground round it is northern bush. About 1.77 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. At about 7.4 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. The nearest place of any size is Lloydminster, 31 km away. After that come Vermilion at 34 km and Wainwright at 46 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County of Vermilion River No. 24 records list northern pike, logperch and shorthead redhorse among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Albert Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. That is the shape of the year on Albert Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. It is recorded as intermittent, which means the basin empties in dry spells. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Ravine Lake, 7.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Albert Lake before loading the car.
