Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with stillness over the whole water as pressure slides. Activity on Lake Wallawalla should centre on points where shallow meets deep. The useful hours run the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. The season is young; the warm corners hold the life.

Lake Wallawalla lies in Mildura, in Victoria. It stands 23 metres above sea level. The water covers around 5.73 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. On our Mildura list it sits near the top for size. Start from Paringa, 37 km down the road. Further out sit Renmark (41 km) and Renmark West (44 km). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover common carp, golden perch, goldfish and Murray cod. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lake Wallawalla light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Typical January readings run about 25°C; by July the average is down near 10°C. The year runs unbroken and warm. Summer, December to February, brings heat, so fish the early and late hours. Spring, September into November, fishes hardest, with autumn a close second. On Lake Wallawalla the same rules apply, with local timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the carp, bait a margin spot and sit on it; corn and bread still work. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lake Victoria at 23 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Lake Wallawalla.
