Hard light and clear air over the water, with a light ENE breeze and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lake Lorne along the shaded margin through bright spells. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cold nights still cool the margins, so afternoons fish better.

The Greater Geelong end of Victoria holds Lake Lorne. Salt water lies 1 km off. At 8 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. The town to know is Drysdale, 1.5 km out. Clifton Springs lies 2.8 km off, Wallington another 6.4 km. Others close at hand: Lake Connewarre at 10 km, Lake Victoria a touch under 10 km, Lake Borrie at 19 km, Lake Modewarre a touch under 40 km and Lake Gherang at 44 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Nearby survey and observation records mention shortfin eel, goldfish, common carp, perch and King George whiting. Use it to know what is possible here, not what is certain. Lake Lorne gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The seasonal spread runs 9°C to 20°C. Heat sets the pattern from late spring onward. The shoulder seasons either side of summer are the ones to aim for. April and May steady things again after the summer heat. On Lake Lorne that shapes the whole year. The first warm week of the year changes everything here.
Our records carry no access rule either way. The nearest car park is 240 m from the water. A toilet block sits 220 m away. Lake Lorne Reserve runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. For the carp, bait a margin spot and sit on it; corn and bread still work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Lake Connewarre, 10 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Lake Lorne for certain.
