Full sun on the water today, with flat calm through the day with a settled glass. Fish at Lake Loombah should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Spring water is still waking up, so the shallows warm first.

Look for Lake Loombah in Wangaratta, Victoria. Elevation runs to 329 metres. With some 11 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Roughly 1.7 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It is high ground by Victoria standards. For supplies, Benalla is 28 km out. Melbourne sits 165 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Open occurrence data for the surrounding area lists brown trout, trout cod, goldfish, perch and rainbow trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lake Loombah the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Averages here run 21°C at the top of summer and 7°C at the bottom of winter. Cooler months are the productive ones on most of this water. Summer, December to February, brings heat, so fish the early and late hours. March through May and September through November are the strong stretches. At Lake Loombah the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a car park 440 m from the bank. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, McCallsay Reservoir at 7.7 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Lake Loombah for certain.
