Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a light chop building from the ESE with a settled glass. Activity on Lake Koynock should centre on windblown banks where food collects. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Spring rewards the bank that catches the sun.

Lake Koynock is listed under West Wimmera, Victoria. It sits in dry hill. At about 55 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The nearest town is Nhill, 55 km away. Further out sit Haven (61 km) and Dimboola (62 km). Also within reach: Lake Karnak out at 1.7 km, Lake Ratzcastle 4 km away, Maryvale Swamp out at 8.6 km, Pine Hut Lake 12 km away and Silver Lake out at 13 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of state rules.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include golden perch, perch and tench. Use it to know what is possible here, not what is certain. Read Lake Koynock for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The range across the year is 8°C to 20°C. The season runs year-round, with the peak either side of summer. Spring, September into November, and autumn, March into May, are the strong stretches. The shoulder seasons either side of summer are the ones to aim for. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lake Koynock.
Access is not recorded for this water. Part of this sits inside or beside Lake Koynock Wildlife Reserve (hunting), so read the notices. For the carp, bait a margin spot and sit on it; corn and bread still work. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Lake Karnak is 1.7 km off. None of that is settled for Lake Koynock in what we hold.
