A crisp, open sky after dark, with mild air moving in from the SE and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lake Hume along sheltered bays and points. The evening carries the best of the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Early-season fish sit where winter loosens first.

Set in Wodonga, Lake Hume is a Victoria water. Height above sea level is 180 metres. It covers about 110.94 sq km, which means weather matters as much as tactics. Bays run back a long way, and the fish move between them with the season. It is one of the larger waters we list anywhere in Victoria. The closest town, Baranduda, is 9.6 km distant. Tallangatta lies 12 km off, East Albury another 16 km. Rules can differ a short way off, since the regional boundary is near.
Our records hold no depth for this water. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. At Lake Hume the water rewards a slow, careful approach. Rainfall totals about 818 mm a year, heaviest in July and lightest in February.
Long-run averages give February about 23°C and July about 8°C. Winter is a mild inconvenience here, nothing more. Summer, December to February, brings heat, so fish the early and late hours. Spring, September into November, fishes hardest, with autumn a close second. Plan any trip to Lake Hume around it.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. It is an impounded water, so levels are managed and can shift through the year. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Horseshoe Lagoon, 19 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Lake Hume should be assumed from this page alone.
