A still, cloudless night on the water, with a faint NE drift and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Lake Buloke will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The spring warm-up puts fish on the sunny banks.

Lake Buloke is a Buloke water, in Victoria. The surface lies 104 metres up. Surface area runs to some 41.76 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. Nothing else we list in Buloke covers more water. Donald is the closest town at 12 km. Bendigo is the closest city, 130 km away. Others close at hand: Wooroonook Lakes 22 km, Lake Kimbolton roughly 23 km, Reedy Lake 24 km, Lake Batyo Catyo roughly 28 km and Tchum Lakes 30 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records collected within a few miles name Murray cod, perch, brown trout and tench. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lake Buloke rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Averages move between 9°C in July and 22°C in February. Temperatures stay workable through the cold season. Winter here is cool and quiet, and often the most comfortable time out. Early spring brings the water on quickly here. The season on Lake Buloke follows the weather closely.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. If the gate is shut, Wooroonook Lakes at 22 km is the nearest alternative. Treat access at Lake Buloke as something to verify.
