Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a faint NNE drift with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Kings Billabong should come off whatever cover the water offers. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Pre-summer fish are feeding up and mobile.

Night
The Mildura end of Victoria holds Kings Billabong. Height above sea level is 39 metres. At some 1.57 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. With 8.7 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Nearest place of any size is Nichols Point, 3.3 km away. Then Irymple, 5.1 km, and Gol Gol, 6.5 km. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover common carp, golden perch, goldfish, silver perch and Murray cod. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Kings Billabong the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The warmest month averages 24°C, the coldest about 10°C. Cold never becomes a factor on this one. Summer, December to February, brings heat, so fish the early and late hours. The shoulder seasons either side of summer are the ones to aim for. Kings Billabong runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A carry of 960 m from the nearest parking is the price of fishing here. Kings Billabong Park runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Lake Ranfurly, 12 km away. Confirm access to Kings Billabong locally before you travel.
