Green Lake in Bass Coast: How and When to Fish It

  The Bass Coast end of Victoria holds Green Lake. The shore lies 0.4 km out. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Ground here is low by Victoria standards. Phillip Island is the closest place, 7 km off. Then Cowes, 9.1 km, and Somers, 13 km. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.

• Where to Fish on Green Lake

  There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include shortfin eel, grassy flathead and South Australian roughy. Check the state or provincial list before planning around one species. • Seasonal Patterns

  Expect February to average close to 19°C, with July the cold end at about 10°C. It fishes twelve months of the year. Spring, September into November, and autumn, March into May, are the strong stretches. Early spring brings the water on quickly here. Green Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
