Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a decent NW wind working the banks and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Bronte Lagoon is drains and drop-offs on the tide. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Pre-summer fish are feeding up and mobile.

Tasmania holds Bronte Lagoon, in Central Highlands (Tas.). The water sits 665 metres up. At some 4.71 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The edge covers about 12 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Supplies mean a trip to Cressy, 75 km off. Then Deloraine, 76 km, and Bagdad, 77 km. No regional boundary comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Flats either side fish on the drop as bait is pushed off them. Reed and marsh margins hold fish through the moving hours. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include brown trout, tench, cliff flathead, deep-sea flathead and grassy flathead. Presence in the area does not guarantee a fish in this exact water on the day. Read Bronte Lagoon before you fish it and the day goes better.
Long-term averages put February at about 13°C and July near 4°C. Temperature moves within a narrow band, and so does the fishing. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. Spring, September into November, fishes hardest, with autumn a close second. Plan around that when you fish Bronte Lagoon.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Overnight stays are possible 1.4 km away. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Tunnel Bay at 4.5 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Bronte Lagoon is worth confirming on the day.
