A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a whisper of wind from the ENE and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lake Clarendon along bays that hold the day's warmth. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. The season is young; the warm corners hold the life.

Queensland holds Lake Clarendon, in Lockyer Valley. It lies 85 metres above sea level. About 3.28 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. It is a smooth basin, with the interest below the waterline rather than along it. Plainland lies 9.1 km from the water. The big place round here is Toowoomba, 40 km distant. No regional boundary comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open occurrence data for the surrounding area lists Australian longfinned eel and goldfish. Check the state or provincial list before planning around one species. The near bank of Lake Clarendon is often the one people ignore.
Averages move between 13°C in July and 25°C in January. The year runs unbroken and warm. Summer, December to February, brings heat, so fish the early and late hours. The shoulder seasons either side of summer are the ones to aim for. Lake Clarendon fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. You can camp about 1.1 km away, going by the mapping. There is a toilet block some 1.1 km out. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Lake Atkinson, 13 km away. Treat Lake Clarendon as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
