Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with a useful NE wind pushing food about with the glass slipping lower. The productive water at Lake Barcoorah will be around points where shallow meets deep. Make the middle of the day the heart of the trip. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Spring rewards the bank that catches the sun.

Barcaldine, Queensland, is where Lake Barcoorah sits. Beyond the shoreline you have open low country. This is sizeable water at about 8.56 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Barcaldine is the closest town at 116 km. Beyond it, Longreach at 154 km and Blackall at 212 km. Water in the same corner: Lake Dunn (34 km) and Lake Galilee within 50 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read Lake Barcoorah before you fish it and the day goes better. One good feature beats a mile of plain bank.
January is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 29°C, while July sits near 16°C. Cold never shuts this water down; heat is the only limit. Season rules are a separate question. Spring runs September to November and autumn March to May, and both fish well. Spring, September into November, fishes hardest, with autumn a close second. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lake Barcoorah.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records show it does not hold water year-round. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lake Dunn at 34 km is the nearest alternative. For Lake Barcoorah, the notice at the access point is the final word.
